Hi I just got my first period and I don’t really know anything about it
Hi ♡💫 When you get your first period, it’s totally normal to feel a mix of things – excited, confused, annoyed, proud, unsure... all of those feelings are valid.
Here’s what you can do on day 1 to take care of yourself:
👉 Put together a little period kit with pads, wipes, fibre-filled snacks, pain relief (like ibuprofen or paracetamol – check this with an adult first though), and heat pads – whatever helps you feel comfortable
👉 Let a trusted adult know (like a parent or carer) so they can help you get what you need and support you if anything feels tricky
👉 Start tracking your period on luna so you can spot patterns over time
👉 Explore luna’s Periods & Hormones section in Learn – it’s full of tips and info to help you feel more confident
And if you’re wondering what’s actually going on in your body:
👉 Your period is part of your menstrual cycle, which usually lasts around 28 days, but can be shorter or longer, especially when you’re just starting (21-25 days is normal) – day 1 of a cycle is day 1 of your period
👉 The bleeding usually lasts between 2-7 days and comes from your vagina – it’s your body shedding the lining of your uterus
👉 You can manage your period using period products such as pads, tampons, menstrual cups or period underwear – it’s okay to try different things to find what works for you
👉 You might notice cramps, bloating or mood swings – these are common, but if anything feels unmanageable, it’s worth chatting with a trusted adult about seeing a doctor
This is just the beginning of getting to know your body, and luna is here for you every step of the way 🫶
