Why do teens avoid bra fittings?

Let’s be honest, the idea of a first bra fitting can feel a bit scary.

And because so many teens don’t know what really happens at a fitting, lots of them put it off because they think it’ll be awkward, too personal, or even embarrassing.

In fact, a recent 2025 poll by us at luna found that 73% of teens had never had a bra fitting.

But here’s the thing: getting fitted can make such a difference!

The right bra means better comfort, proper support, and way more confidence for your teen, whether in P.E., hanging out with friends, or just getting on with the day.

So, here's how to instil confidence in them.

Start with a virtual fitting

The good news? Your teen doesn't even need to head into a shop to get fitted anymore!

For example, Boobydoo offers virtual bra fittings, and they’re simple, private, and always done with a parent present for younger customers.

It’s all done from home, which makes that first step feel much less intimidating.

Explain what really happens during a bra fitting

Many teens worry that a bra fitting will be awkward or too personal, so explaining how the process is actually pretty relaxed may help.

Here’s what usually happens in a virtual first bra fitting:

  • Before the fitting, you or your teen need to take rib and bust measurements
  • You and your teen join the fitting online together over Microsoft Teams or Zoom, so you can use a laptop, tablet, or mobile
  • Your teen doesn't need to be nude – they can wear a bra or a vest
  • The fitting expert will talk through measurements, give personalised recommendations, and answer any questions you both have – all in a private, confidential session
  • Once your teen knows their size and shape, the fitter can help them pick out the best sports bras for their body and activity – they can even place the order for you during the call, or you can order online afterwards

Confidence can take time, here's what can help

Getting fitted is about more than just bras – it’s about building confidence and learning to feel comfortable in your own body.

Tools like luna help with this, too, giving teens support and reassurance in lots of different areas of life.

Like a bra fitting, luna’s expert-vetted advice helps teens learn more about their bodies and what they can do to look after themselves inside and out.
