my mental health isn’t the best, my teachers have noticed but my parent haven’t? is this normal or are my parents being ignorant
Hi, there are a few reasons a teacher might notice a struggle before someone at home does 💛
It can be quite common for a parent not to realise that their child is struggling with their mental health, especially if there aren’t physical signs.
This doesn’t automatically mean your parent is being ignorant.
They might not know how to bring it up with you, or they could be dealing with things of their own.
You could tell your parent how you’ve been feeling so they have a chance to understand and support you.
If that feels too scary right now, you could speak to the teacher who noticed or another trusted adult, and ask them to help you work out how to start that conversation 🫶
If you’re worried about your mental health, try to get support from a trusted adult and see a doctor together for more personal advice.
If you feel at risk of harming yourself, please get help today by calling 999 or going to your nearest A&E department.
