Privacy at luna

Last updated: July 2026

V1.0

Privacy notices are usually long and scary, so we’ve created a teen version just for you with the same rules, just explained in a simple way to help you understand ✨

If you'd rather read the full legal version, you can find it here.

The 30-second version

1️⃣ luna only collects what it needs, and we never sell your data.

2️⃣ Your parent doesn't see your questions, your tracking, or anything you do in the app.

3️⃣ You can delete your data any time by emailing us at hello@weareluna.app.

What's luna?

luna is an app for teens and pre-teens.

We help you keep track of your periods, your moods, and help you through new or confusing experiences as you grow up.

To do that properly, we need a few things from you.

This page tells you what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

We only ask for what we actually need

That's:

👉 Your name: so we can say hi properly

👉 Your email address: so we can update you about luna

👉 Your birthday: to make sure luna is right for your age

👉 How you sign in: your password and login details

👉 The things you choose to track about your health: periods, moods, symptoms, sleep etc.

👉 What you ask and read: your questions in Ask, what you've looked at in Learn and if you've got premium, we also have the payment details that go with that

We might collect a bit of info automatically about your device (like what kind of phone you’re using) to make sure luna runs smoothly.

Sometimes, we work with other companies who help us run luna and they might share info about you with us to help improve your experience.

We sometimes need certain information, like your birthday, to make sure luna works properly and we follow the rules. If we don’t get it, we might not be able to let you use luna or provide all its features. If you’re unsure, just ask us!

Why we need your birthday

This is the big one.

Different countries have different rules about how old you have to be before you can use luna on your own without parental or guardian permission.

To keep things simple, here's the rundown of how we approach these age rules:

👉 UK, most countries: 13

👉 Canada: 14

👉 Australia: 15

👉 EU, Norway, Switzerland: 16

👉 USA: 18

If you're under the age for your country, luna stays locked until your parent or guardian  sets things up.

We'll ask you for their email so we can walk them through what luna is, handle payment (if there is one) and what you'll be doing on it.

If they don't get back to us in 30 days, we delete the info and you can start fresh if you come back later.

What if your country allows a lower age?

If you live in a country where the rules say you can sign up at a younger age (like 13 or 14), don’t worry!

You can reach out to us, and we’ll check if you can join without needing a parent or guardian.

If you think you’re allowed but can’t sign up, just let us know and we’ll help figure it out for you.

Can your parent or guardian see what you do on luna?

No.

Even if they pay for luna, they don't see your questions, your tracking, or anything you read in the app.

Their job is to say yes (and handle the payment, if there is one).

If they’d prefer to give permission in a different way, that’s totally fine!

They just need to contact us and we’ll help them out.

There's one exception.

A dashboard for paying parents or guardians.

That shows them basic stats like how many days you've tracked this week.

The actual info stays private.

This is to show them the value you’re getting from luna.

Stuff we don't do

👉 No targeted ads: we don't use your data to send you ads

👉 No selling: we never sell your data to anyone

👉 No naming names: questions are fully anonymous

Cookies and trackers

Cookies are little bits of code that help websites and apps remember things, like who you are or what page you were on.

We use a few different types:

👉 Session cookies: these only stick around while you're using luna

👉 Strictly necessary cookies: the basics, so luna actually works

👉 Performance cookies: to see what's working and what's not

You can switch some off in your phone or browser settings.

A few bits of luna might not work as well after that so it’s helpful to keep those on.

Other apps and tools we use

luna doesn't do everything on its own.

We use a handful of tools to help things run smoothly and we may share and get some of your info from them if it’s needed.

👉 Adjust: helps us see where new members heard about luna

👉 Mixpanel: tells us which bits of the app are getting used

👉 Firebase: helps the app run properly behind the scenes like setting up notifications

👉 Google Analytics: for the luna website

If you're under the age limit for your country, Adjust runs in a special mode that doesn't track you.

Once parental or guardian consent is in, it switches to normal.

Keeping your stuff safe

Your luna password should stay your luna password.

If you ever think someone else has got hold of it, tell us straight away.

We do everything we can to keep your info secure, but no system on the internet is 100% safe.

If something ever goes wrong, we'll let you know.

Where your info lives

Sometimes we send your data to another country to be stored or processed.

Sometimes these other countries don’t have the same rules as the country you live in to help protect your info.

We only do this when we have strong privacy safeguards in place, and we make sure your information is protected on the way and when it gets there.

How long we keep things

We hold onto your info for as long as we actually need it.

After that, we delete it or anonymise it (so it's not connected to you any more).

If you delete your account or withdraw consent, we delete your data too.

A couple of exceptions are complaints or queries we're still looking into, or anything we have to keep by law.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

👉 Show you the data we have on you: a copy of everything

👉 Fix anything that's wrong: a typo, a wrong date

👉 Delete your data: all of it, or just bits

👉 Stop processing your info: in certain situations

👉 Send your data somewhere else: in a readable format you can take with you

👉 Withdraw consent: at any time, no reason needed

To do any of this, email hello@weareluna.app.

If you've got a complaint, please tell us first so we can try to fix it.

If you're still not happy after that, you can take it to a data protection authority in your country.

Different countries, different rules

Privacy laws are different all over the world.

Here's the short version of how luna handles them.

UK

We follow UK GDPR and the Children's Code (also called the Age Appropriate Design Code).

The age limit is 13.

We're registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

They're the people who check we're using your info properly.

EU, Norway, Switzerland

The age limit is 16.

We've gone with one rule across Europe to keep things simple, even though some countries set it lower.

US

We follow COPPA, which is the US law for under-13s.

But the age of consent in some US states is 18, so this is the age we set luna to for parent or guardian consent.

Parents can ask to see, delete, or refuse further collection of their child's info.

If you're in California, Washington, or Nevada, you've got extra rights about your health data (see the next section).

Canada

We follow PIPEDA at the federal level and Quebec's Law 25.

The age limit is 14 across the country.

Australia

Privacy Act 1988 applies. The age limit is 15.

Australia's bringing in a new Children's Online Privacy Code by December 2026.

We'll update this page when that lands.

Health data, specifically

Your period info, your moods, your symptoms, your sleep, what you ask about in luna: that's all health data.

We treat it with extra care because it's more sensitive than your name or email.

We collect it because:

👉 Service delivery: to make luna work for you (track your cycle, answer your questions, all of that)

👉 Safety and the law: to keep luna secure, prevent fraud, and meet our legal duties

We share health data with the people who help us run luna behind the scenes (like hosting and customer support).

We'd only share it more widely if you said yes, or if the law required it.

You can ask us to see, fix, or delete your health data at any time. Email hello@weareluna.app.

Washington and Nevada residents: if we don't sort your request, you can appeal, or contact your state's Attorney General.

If we ever change this notice

We might update this page from time to time.

The "last updated" date at the top will tell you when.

If anything big changes, we'll let you know.
